I do like the woodland feel, however I do feel like monuments should be looked after as best as possible without affecting that and broken ones not left laying about.

Okay so the British stole the objects. They have taken the greatest care of them for more than a century. If these objects are sent back to the rightful owners do you really think they will preserve them over decades/centuries? Neglect, a war, or a disaster would probably ruin them sooner rather than later. Unlike Greece, there are no earthquakes in the UK. Shall we talk about the stability of the Middle East? Shall we discuss the recent destruction of Palmyra? In thinking of shared world culture maybe the British are better stewards.

Interesting. Complex. I'm in no doubt that the Parthenon sculptures should return and will be well cared for. It's also true within Britain: why are the Vindolanda Tablets in London? They should be in the excellent museum at Vindolanda. This is true of many items taken from the North.

    • @TheMuseumGuide

I think when they were discovered the British Museum was considered the only museum suitable for display. To my knowledge, some are now in Vindolanda?

That last part about Faraday got me. I got in a lot of trouble for saying that psychology isn't a heard science, it's a social science. Boy did my grad school Psych profs hate that. I also get the not praying out loud thing in a way. As a Catholic, I say Grace before meals. I tend to do this silently, or ask if anyone would like to pray with me. One time I prayed Grace in front of grad school mates and someone asked if I was okay. Someone had to shout, "SHE'S PRAYING!".

The automaton is a statement against colonialism by the Raj. It's not "whimsical". You come from a colonized country, that is Canada. Racism and misogyny was at its high then. Unless you are from Saskatoon, then no shade, you are perfectly divine.

The weirdest museum I've ever been to? It's kind of a toss-up between three: 1) the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle, England; 2) The Dog Collar Museum in Maidstone, England; and 3) and the Kriminal Museum in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany. That last one gave me the most chills, btw-- when you're walking through an old prison where more blood has been spilled than you've probably drank in water during your entire life, it makes an impact. Terrible place. Excellent video! Personally, I'd love to see an ep just on The Magic Circle; that one really whetted my interest, and it'd make a great Halloween video, wouldn't it? Also, if I managed to get into the Novelty Automaton museum, Viktor Wynd's or the Severs House, it might be a day or so before I left... Viktor Wynd's would also make for an excellent full video, especially if you were allowed to film the séance you mentioned.

To be completely historically accurate, James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth was the eldest illegitimate child of Charles II and his mistress Lucy Walter, not Nell Gwyn (who came later and called herself the Protestant Whòre). This is not to put down this fascinating tour by The Museum Guide (I am a subscriber---her tour of the Hunterian is wildly fascinating and macabre). English history is my forte and specialty.

Stumbled across this and had to watch it. My father died when I was a small child and was cremated at Brookwood in the late 1960s. We emigrated to Australia a few years later, after my mother remarried. We were not allowed to go to my father's funeral and I was still a child when we emigrated, so I've never seen where my father's last resting place was. I believe his ashes were scattered in the rose gardens.
